This article introduces a novel diagnostic methodology for detecting rotor imbalance using dispersion entropy (DisEn). Rotor imbalance significantly impacts operational efficiency, safety, and longevity, particularly in marine and offshore machinery. The presented method is non-invasive and highly sensitive, relying on DisEn analysis of vibration signals to accurately detect imbalance at early stages. An experimental setup replicating realistic rotor imbalance conditions was developed, enabling comprehensive validation of the proposed approach. Tests conducted on a rotor-bearing system assessed DisEn values derived from displacement and acceleration signals across various imbalance scenarios. Results confirm DisEn's ability to reliably differentiate balanced and unbalanced rotor states at multiple operating speeds, demonstrating clear alignment with international balancing standards and underscoring its potential for real-time diagnostics and monitoring.
