Loads modelling in assembly of multi-disc plastic grindinder

Development of computer science facilitates design of machines such as shredders. In this paper, the authors present it with an example of analysis of loads in a milling assembly. The analysis of multi-disc shredder is performed by means of advanced software such as TEST-4-TPTS and PSI-GAD-III. In experimental research, the authors performed a program of quasi-shearing of plastic pipe specimens made of primary and recycled polymer in order to determine strains and loads in actual shredder. Continuous machine milling of recycled plastic materials was also examined. This allowed the authors to determine efficiency, power requirements, comminution quality (degree of disintegration) and the specific energy consumption per unit in multi-disc shredders.

Studies on the effect of mill microstructure upon tool life during slot milling of Ti6Al4V alloy parts

Different forms of tool wear occur in the milling process. Mechanical wear, which has a range of varieties, is a typical form of wear connected with mill operating. One of the varieties of mechanical wear, frequently occurring during milling machiningresistant materials, is undesirable catastrophic wear. Avoiding that kind of wear by appropriate selection of technological parameters, sort of burning carbides and their microstructure constitutes basic information about reliability of the tool. This paper presents the findings from the experimental testing of the impact SC grain size in end mills on the cutting tool tooth (bit) service life and surface topography after slot milling Ti6Al4V alloy parts. The tool wear indicator was determined in compliance with PN-ISO 8688:1996. It was demonstrated that ultra fine grain SC milling cutters are the most resistant to chipping, whereas the surfaces machined with these cutting tools reveals the lowest roughness. The coarse grain SC milling cutters are among those with the shortest service life of all tested tools.

Vibration analysis during AZ31 magnesium alloy milling with the use of different toolholder types

Machining vibrations are an important issue as they occur in all types of machining processes. Due to its negative impact on machining results, this phenomenon is undesirable, and so there have been continuous efforts to find solutions that will minimise it, and thus improve the stability and safety of the machining process. The paper attempts to determine the impact of toolholder type and cutting condition on the vibrations generated while milling an AZ31 magnesium alloy. The tests were performed using the three most common types of toolholders: ER, Shrink Fit and hydraulic. The vibration displacement and acceleration signals were analysed based on parameters such as Peak-to-Peak, Peak, and Root Mean Square. Composite Multiscale Entropy was also applied to check the stability of cutting processes and define the level of signal irregularity. To determine the frequencies of vibrations and to detect chatter vibrations Fast Fourier Transform was performed. This provides information on the stability and enables vibrations to be minimized by avoiding unfavourable cutting conditions.
